Who installs XM radios?
Most XM radios can be installed at the place of purchase. We suggest that you ask your local retailer for their recommendation on how you should have your radio installed to ensure optimum performance.
We've put our radio hardware manuals online to help you get the most out of your XM Radio.
What does XM Ready mean?
XM Ready means that the radio can be upgraded to receive XM programming and that your radio is fully compatible with the XM tuner module needed to receive the XM Radio service.
What is required to upgrade to XM?
In order for an XM Ready radio to receive XM programming, you will need a XM Ready radio, a tuner box and an antenna. Cassette Adaptor and FM-modulated units are available and will work with your existing car or home stereo. The tuner box enables the radio to receive and transmit the XM signal. The antenna needs to be installed or mounted on the outside of the automobile where it will have the maximum exposure to the sky.
Are there different antennas available?
There are several antenna configurations available to receive the XM signal. These configurations include a glass-mounted antenna, a roof-mounted antenna, and a magnet-mounted antenna. The customer can select the type of antenna that they want; however some radios come standard with certain antenna configurations. Additional antenna configurations may need to be purchased separately. Please see your retailer for details.
Where can I update the firmware of my portable radio?
XM will periodically offer updates, or "firmware upgrades" for your portable XM radio (Inno, Helix, or Nexus). Information on upgrading your firmware can be found on the Firmware Upgrade page.

What is channel blocking? What do the codes on my channel display mean?
Some XM programming may include explicit language. Channels with a frequent use of explicit language are indicated on your channel line-up and on the channel display with an "XL." Some other channels may also, from time to time, include explicit language, but are not designated on the channel line-up or channel display with an "XL." It is your responsibility to impose listening restrictions that you consider appropriate for yourself and/or others. Please contact our Listener Care Center 1-800-XM-RADIO (1-800-967-2346), for assistance with channel blocking.
Channel blocking is not available with the Online Service; therefore it is your responsibility to impose listening restrictions that you consider appropriate for yourself and/or others.
Furthermore, some programming may broadcast in Spanish or French and are indicated on your channel line-up and on the channel display with an "SP" or "FR" respectively. Additionally, certain music channels may contain commercials and are indicated on your channel line-up and on the channel display with a "CM". See chart below:
